TecnoVeritas offers energy management consultancy services to all sectors of the maritime industry.

The Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP) developed by the International Maritime Organization (IMO - MEPC.1/Circ.683) is a tool for ship owners and operators to use to outline a program that continuously improves the energy efficiency of their vessels.

TecnoVeritas can assist with the development and the implementation of the SEEMP.

Developing the Ship Energy Efficiency Management Plan (SEEMP)
TecnoVeritas is able to provide and help the ship owners and operators in the SEEMP implementation and development. The SEEMP has four phases to consider:

  • Phase 1: Planning
Is the most important stage of the SEEMP that includes the current status of the ship energy usage and the future improvement of ship energy efficiency. The main emphasis of this phase is to identify areas where energy efficiency can be improved, resulting in reduced cost and minimized emissions.

It is necessary to carry out a comprehensive ship assessment with onboard measurements regarding energy efficiency in order get an understanding of the weak areas and possibilities for improvements.

A report combined with the energy balance and payback time calculations are developed for preparing the implementation roadmap.

To provide the necessary training to the personnel both on shore and on board is another important thing.
An independent survey and assessment of the overall energy consumption and efficiency of the company's fleet can be a useful first step in providing detailed recommendations and areas of improvement for each ship.

  • Phase 2: Implementation
It is necessary to establish a record-keeping for the implementation of each measure, so that the energy efficiency measures are recorded and evaluated for their effectiveness.
  • Phase 3: Monitoring
The energy efficiency of a ship should be monitored by an international standart method as the Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator (EEOI). TecnoVeritas has developed the VEEO a Tool For Ship Energy Management.
  • Phase 4: Self-evaluation and improvement
This is the final phase of this plan and should produce meaningful feedback for the coming first stage (of the improvement cycle). In this part the effectiveness of the planned measures and implementation is evaluated to find out which procedures of ship energy management should be developed. The evaluation provides feedback and input for management decisions in the next improvement cycle.

The plan provides a mechanism for identifying measures aimed at maximizing operational efficiency throughout and a approach to monitoring ship and fleet efficiency performance over time. A SEEMP plan is not static and should be continually in development.
